Grown by a network of smallholder farmers in the southern Waghi Valley, Kinmuga PB comes from one of Papua New Guinea’s most agriculturally rich regions , often called the “food bowl of PNG.” Nestled at 1,600 meters above sea level and ringed by an extinct volcano, this high-altitude valley benefits from fertile volcanic soil and mineral-rich deposits carried by the Wara Tuman River.
Ripe coffee cherries are hand-harvested by smallholders and delivered to the Kindeng wet mill, where they’re pulped, fermented, and processed before heading to the Kagamuga dry mill in Hagen. Since 2018, Kindeng has employed an environmentally friendly wastewater digester, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable processing.
This origin consistently yields a dynamic and complex cup across roast levels.
In our medium-dark roast, Kinmuga PB is bright and sweet, with notes of cinnamon, dark chocolate and almonds, carried by a pillowy mouthfeel.
Whether brewed as a syrupy, balanced drip or a rich single-origin espresso, Kinmuga PB delivers versatility, vibrancy, and a truly distinctive experience.
This coffee supports the work of Benchmark Coffee Traders, whose deep investment in the Highlands of Papua New Guinea has led to real, measurable community impact:
Education: Over the past six years, textbooks have been provided to five elementary schools. In 2023, Benchmark partnered with Deeper Roots to build a new school for 88 children.
Clean Water: Seven rainwater tanks have been installed in remote villages where no piping systems exist, helping ensure access to safe and reliable drinking water.
Women’s Health: In partnership with QueenPads, 580 women received reusable menstrual products and education on menstrual health — a vital and often overlooked need in rural areas.
In addition to sourcing quality coffee, this lot contributes to a Farmer Impact Fund — a direct-support model that provides one-time financial grants to farmers. These funds are used at the producer’s discretion for farm or community improvements such as infrastructure, equipment, or health initiatives — creating a more just, transparent coffee supply chain.
